Concept 1 Force Fields Flashcards
Any of the various factors that causes a body to change its speed, direction or shape.
Force
A region or space in which a given effect (such as magnetism) exists.
Force Fields
A single force whose external effects on a rigid body are the same as the effect of several actual forces acting on the body.
Net force
Forces that act between two objects that are not physically touching each other.
Non contact force
A region composed of a group of atoms whose magnetic fields are aligned in the same direction.
Magnetic Domain
A magnet that retains its magnetism after removal of the magnetizing force
Permanent Magnet
Either of the two areas of the magnet where the magnetic field is the strongest. The North and South Poles are the strongest
pole
A material of such low conductivity that the flow of current through it is negligible (usually rubber)
Insulator
A substance, body, or device that readily conducts heat, electricity, sound, ect. (copper
Conductor
The smallest unit of a chemical element. An atom consists of a dense central nucleus composed of protons and neutrons, surrounded by a cloud of rapidly orbiting electrons.
Atom
A stable subatomic particle with a negative electric charge that is opposite to that of a proton but is equal in magnitude. (This is what gets transferred in electricity , and static electricity).
Electron
An electrically neutral or no charge subatomic particle that has a mass slightly greater than that of a portion and is part of every atomic nucleus
Neutrons
A stable subatomic particle that is part of the nucleus of an atom and has a positive electric charge. Its charge is opposite to that of an electron bit is equal in magnitude. The amount of protons depends on the individual element
protons
Electric charge that accumulates on an object rather that flowing through it as a current.
Static Electricity
`An electric motor is a device for converting electrical energy into mechanical energy in the form of rotation.
