Computerized Cd Flashcards

Q

The clinical protocols for digitizing the tissue surface of a denture depend on the used system.

A
  1. Direct scanning of the supporting tissue using (Intra – Oral Scanner)
  2. Indirectly scanning the stone cast or even the impression, using lab. Desktop scanner or intraoral scanner.

Q

Advantages of intra-oral scanner over conventional impression

A
  • improvement of patients’ comfort .
  • facilitation of laboratory procedures, without the need of physical casts.
  • dimensionally accurate for CD fabrication.

digital denture technology is still behind as regards the registration of maxillomandibular relationships.

Q

currently two principal methods exist. both require the appropriate three-dimensional (3D) denture design CAD files.

A
  • The additive method (also called rapid prototyping) was invented in 1981 and can be encountered as 3D printing.
  • fabricate a 3D object in a layer-by- layer fashion based on the relevant CAD file.

Q

Comparing 3D printing vs. Milling Method

A
  • Both CAM technologies offer clinically acceptable results faster than the traditional process.
  • 3D printer is more affordable than a milling machine
  • Selection of the appropriate 3D printer is a complicated task, while milling have been on the market for a longer period .
  • CDs produced with the Milling method have been found to be superior in toughness and color stability than the 3D- printed ones.
  • the bond strength of denture teeth might be a concern with both CAM techniques

Q

Summery of Digital complete denture steps

A
  • Digital impression (intra-Oral Scanner).
  • Fabrication of Base plate and occlusion rim.
  • Conventional jaw relation record. Scanning of the record.
  • Selection and arrangement of the artificial teeth digitally.
  • Printing or milling a trial denture (mono-block)
  • Try-in, minimal adjustments by grinding or adding wax to the trial denture.
  • Milling of the denture base and teeth separaely
  • Bonding of the teeth to the denture base sockets.
  • Polymerization in a pressure pot, finishing and polishing.
