Internet protocol
What is an IP adress
A unique string of numbers Separated by full stops that identifies each computer using the internet protocol to communicate over a network
What does DNS stand for
Domain name system
What is a domain name
The part of a network address which identifies it as belonging to a particular domain.
What is DNS
DNS is the way humans can understand the web. The computer takes the DNS and transforms it into an IP address which it can understand.

Commercial. Used by anyone who wants to register a domain name
Co.uk =
Company. Used by companies
.org
Organisation or charity. Paid educations such as St.mary’s
.gov
Government. Used by government
.edu
Education. Used by Collages and universities
.net
Network. Often used by internet companies like sky and virgin

Military. Used by military

Stops a number of offences involving the use of a computer to steal or use data that doesn’t belong to you
What is the copyright designs and patent act
Makes sure that content creators protect what they create e.g films,music
What is the data protection act
It protects personal details such as credit card numbers and bank details
What is the arithmetic logic unit (CPU)
The part that performs the arithmetic and logical operations
What is the control unit
It extracts instructions from memory and decodes and executes them, calling on the ALU when necessary.
