Computer Structure Flashcards

1
Q

Name the three key areas of the processor, and their functions.

A

A processor is made of three key areas. The ALU, CU and Registers.

Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) performs mathematical calculations and logical operations.

Control Unit (CU) directs the computer system.

Registers are high speed memory within the processor that store the current instruction and calculation.

Q

Explain what encryption is.

A

For additional security data can be encrypted. This does not stop a hacker gaining access to it or messing it up. However, it does stop a hacker from being able to intercept messages and read your data.
