Explain the difference between IPv4 and IPv6
IPv6 has been instated as the world has more active devices than IPv4 can log, IPv6 address is 128 bits long compared to IPv4’s 32.
What is the Internet and how does it differ from the World Wide Web
The internet is a global network of interconnected networks, not owned or managed by anyone. The WWW is all the web pages accessible via the internet
What happens when a user types a URL
The URL is sent to a local DNS, translating it to an IP address, which if found is sent back to the browser.
What are the advantages of using DNS servers
-Humans dont have to type or remember IP addresses
-If a domain’s IP address changes, the DNS is updated
-Distributed DNS servers means all addresses can be accessed from a local DNS
What is a URL?
The address of a particular page on a website
Why are IP addresses used instead of MAC addresses?
Although each device’s NIC has a designated MAC address, they are physical and not routable meaning one device cant learn the MAC address of another.
