Cephalocodal
The child’s pattern of growth is from head to toe
Proximodistal
The child’s pattern of growth is also inward to outward pattern
Perceptual Motor Development
One’s ability to receive, interpret and respond successfully to sensory information
Locomotion
Movement or the ability to move from one place to another
Finger Dexterity
Involves tasks involving the manipulation of small objects
e.g: Threading a needle or eating spaghetti with a fork
Manual Dexterity
Underlines tasks in which relatively large objects are manipulated with the hands and arms.
e.g dribbling a basketball
Prehension
Used to describe voluntary use of the hands as characterized by basic seizing and grasping
Dynamic tripod
Refers to the use of proper grip for writing and drawing
Gross Motor
Larger movements made with arms,legs, feet or entire body.
e.g running, jumping,crawling
Fine Motor
small movements — such as picking up small objects and holding a spoon — that use the small muscles of the fingers, toes, wrists, lips, and tongue
Asymmetric Bimanual Skill
Bimanual means two hands and asymmetric means that the two hands are not doing the same thing at the same time
eg. playing guitar or piano
Transfer test
Adding more variables to a specific task to test knowledge.
The primary reason for the transfer test is to see the student’s adaptability
eg. start by teaching throwing skills then add a defender to see how well they throw with a defender
