Compression Flashcards
What is popliteal artery entrapment
Continuous compression of artery results in fibrotic changes
Aneurysmal degeneration and/or thrombosis may develop
Who is affected by popliteal entrapment
Young people, athletes
Symptoms of popliteal entrapment
Claudication or critical limb ischaemia
Clinical assessment for popliteal entrapment
Reduction/absence of pedal pulses upon plantar flexion
Treatment for popliteal entrapment
Division of medial head of gastroc and/or reconstruction of popliteal artery
Imaging for popliteal entrapment
Duplex shows kinking or compression of popliteal during manoeuvre
3 types of thoracic outlet syndrome? TOS
Neurogenic 90-95%
Venous 5%
Arterial 1%
What is TOS
Physiological compression of
Subclavian artery (arterial)
Subclavian vein (venous)
Brachial plexus (neurogenic)
Due to cervical rib or muscular pinch point in thoracic outlet tunnel
Causes of TOS
Chronic repetition arm movements
Symptoms of neurogenic TOS
Pain
Paraesthesia
Motor weakness
Symptoms of VTOS
Following strenuous activity
Arm swelling, cyanosis, pain
May cause Paget-Scheotter disease (upper extremity DVT)
Symptoms of ATOS
Pallor
Pain
Coolness of hand
No radial pulse on rest
Associated with bony abnormalities and really rare
Out of the 3 types of TOS which one is more common in women
Neurogenic
