Compounds, Elements And Mixtures Flashcards
What is a molecule? Give 3 examples
A molecule is 2 atoms held together by chemical bonds it can can have 1 or more elements. 3 examples are water, nitrogen, oxygen and chlorine.
Can molecules also be compounds? Name 3 examples.
Yes molecules can also be compounds, 3 examples are water, h2o and carbon dioxide, Co2 and methane, CH4.
What is a compound? Name 3.
A compound is 2 or more different elements held together by chemical bonds. Some examples are Sodium Chloride, NaCl, sulphur dioxide SO2 and hydrogen sulphide, h2s.
What are compounds all way found in?
They are always found in the same proportions. For example water always has 1 hydrogen and 2 oxygens.
What are mixtures?
Two or more substances that are not chemically combined together. Compounds, molecules, etc mixed and which means it can be easily separated.
What does mixtures not being chemically combined mean?
They can be easily separated through filtration, crystallisation or distillation etc.
What is an element? Name 3.
A substance made of only one type of atom. 3 examples are helium, oxygen and lithium
