Compounds Flashcards
Is it easy to separate two original elements?
No. It’s usually difficult to separate the original two elements out again.
What does the process of making bonds involve?
Making bonds involves atoms giving away, taking or sharing electrons.
What does a compound formed from a metal and non-metal consist of?
A compound which is formed from a metal and non-metal consists of ions.
What does a compound formed from non-metals consist of?
Molecules
What is a covalent bond?
Each atom shares an electron with another atom - this is called a covalent bond. Each atom has to make enough covalent bonds to fill up its outer shell.
What happens when different elements react?
Atoms form chemical bonds with other atoms to form compounds.
What is a compound?
A substance formed by the chemical union (involving bond formation) of two or more elements.
How are new substances formed?
By chemical reactions.
