Components of the Urinary System Flashcards
Nephrons
approximately 1 million nephrons located in each kidney.
Glomerulus
cluster of capillaries that filter substances from the blood.
Bowman´s Capsule
¨c¨ shaped structure, surrounding the glomerulus; sends filtrated materials to the convoluted tubule.
Proximal Convoluted Tubule (PCT)
receives fluid from glomerular capsule. reabsorbs 65% of nutrients, sodium, glucose, potassium, and calcium.
loop of henle
fluid enters the loop from the PCT. reabsorbs 15%.
Distal Convoluted Tubule (DCT)
receives fluid from the loop. reabsorbs 15% mostly only water.
collecting Tubule
fluid enters from DCT. Reabsorbs 5%.
Renal pelvis (basin)
receives fluid from the collectiong tubule
Hillum
a notch, located in each kidney, where ureters, blood, lymph, and nerves enter and leave each kidney.
Renal Corpuscle
where filtration occurs inside each nephron; it consists of the Bowman´s Capsule and the Glomerulus.
