Components of scoring systems Flashcards
HASBLED
risk of major bleeding- The HAS-BLED is a therapeutic bleeding risk stratification score for those on oral anticoagulants in atrial fibrillation (1)
Rockall
Rockall risk scoring system is a valuable tool to predict re-bleeding and mortality rates for patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding in long-term setting
POSSUM
The POSSUM scale (Physiological and Operative Severity Score for the enUmeration of Mortality and Morbidity) is a scoring system that is used to predict risk-adjusted mortality and morbidity rates in a wide variety of surgical procedures.
Its main use is in pre-op assessment to give patients and relatives a more realistic expectation of the post-operative course.
NELA
The National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) was established to describe and compare inpatient care and outcomes of patients undergoing emergency laparotomy in England and Wales in order to promote quality improvement, by collecting high quality comparative data from all NHS providers.
Ranson
Ransons criteria are one of the earliest scoring systems to assess the severity of acute pancreatitis and continue to be widely used.

ROME
help in the diagnosis and treatment of functional gastrointestinal disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome, functional dyspepsia and rumination syndrome.
PHQ-9
depression - Scores less than 5 almost always signified the absence of a depressive disorder; scores of 5 to 9 predominantly represented patients with either no depression or subthreshold (i.e., other) depression; scores of 10 to 14 represented a spectrum of patients; and scores of 15 or greater usually indicated major depression.
GAD-7
anxiety - Score 0-4: Minimal Anxiety. Score 5-9: Mild Anxiety. Score 10-14: Moderate Anxiety. Score greater than 15: Severe Anxiety.
FAST - older persons
The functional assessment staging tool (FAST) is a reliable measure commonly used to assess functional status in patients with dementia.
FAST alcohol
FAST is an alcohol harm assessment tool. It consists of a subset of questions from the full alcohol use disorders identification test (AUDIT).

Cognitive impairment score
If patient scores 9, no significant cognitive impairment and further testing not necessary. If patient scores 5-8, more information required. Proceed with Step 2, informant section. If patient scores 0-4, cognitive impairment is indicated.
StartBack
The STarT [Subgroups for Targeted Treatment] Back Screening Tool (SBST) was initially published in 2008 in Arthritis Care & Research and was designed to be a risk stratification tool for future disabling low back pain in primary care patients. The SBST consists of 9 items, each with a value of 0 or 1 points.
