Health and wellness can be divided into 5 components that must be looked after in order to maintain a high quality of life. What are they?
Physical, spiritual, intellectual, social and emotional
Physical component of health
The body’s overall physical condition, including fitness, nutrition and physical vitality
Spiritual component of health
Discovering purpose, value, and meaning in life (could be through religious or personal practice including engaging in activities that align with core values and spiritual beliefs)
Intellectual component of health
Mental acuity, curiosity, and commitment to lifelong learning; keeping your mind engaged and active, expanding knowledge and skills while also finding ways to share expertise with others
Social component of health
Interactions with others, fostering meaningful relationships, and maintaining a support network that contributes to your overall wellbeing; actively contributing to community and fostering a sense of belonging
Emotional component of health
Understanding and respecting your own feelings, values and attitudes while also appreciating the emotions of others; constructively managing emotions, fostering a positive outlook on life, and being emotionally connected to your surroundings
