Components of fitness Flashcards
the ability of the performer to move two or more body parts accurately/ smoothly in response to stimuli from the senses (E.g- Basketball)
Coordination
the ability of the performer to retrain their centre of mass over their base of support (E.g- Ice hockey)
Balance
the ability to combine strength with speed to perform a strong muscular contraction very quickly. (E.g- Boxing)
Power
the ability of performer to change the position of their body quickly, whilst keeping their entire body under control. (E.g- Volleyball)
Agility
the proportion of fat and fat-free mass (vital organs, muscle, ,bone) in the body. Those with a higher proportion of fat-free mass to a lower-proportion of body fat have a healthy body composition. (E.g- Sumo wrestling)
Body composition
Speed is the rate at which a performer is able to perform a movement or cover a set distance. (E.g- running)
Speed
the amount of force a muscle can generate when it contracts to overcome resistance. The stronger you are, the easier it is to do everyday tasks such as lifting and carrying. (E.g- rowing)
strength
the ability to exercise the whole body for long periods of time. It is also known as aerobic endurance, aerobic fitness or stamina. (E.g- hiking)
Cardiovascular fitness (Aerobic endurance)
to be able to move a joint fluidly through its range of movement. (E.g- Gymnastics’)
Flexibility
the amount of time it takes for a performer to initiate movement after the presentation stimulus. (E.g- football)
reaction time
when a muscle can continue contracting over a period of time against a light moderate fixed resistance load.
