Components of blood Flashcards
4 components of blood
Platelets,erythrocytes,plasma,Leucocytes
Platelets
Blood clotting
Erythrocytes
Transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide.Biconcave shape that contains haemoglobin.
Types of Leucocytes
Lymphocytes basophils Monocytes Neutrophils Eosinophils
Types of granulocytes
Basophils
Neutrophils
Eosinophils
types of agranulocytes
Lymphocyte
Monocyte
What is the difference between granulocytes and agranulocytes?
Granulocytes contain granules in the cytoplasm with lobed nucleus.
What is a lobed nucleus?
The lobes in a nucleus are the DNA of certain immune cells, which have packaged their genetic material in multiple spheres instead of one big sphere.
Neutrophils
Engulf and digest pathogens by phagocytosis.
Eosinophils
Non specific immune response of the body against parasites,in allergic reactions and inflammation and developing immunity to disease.
Basophils
Two lobed.Produce histamines involved in inflammation and allergic reactions.
Monocytes
Can move out of the blood into the tissues to form macrophages which play an important part in specific immune system. They engulf pathogens by phagocytosis.
Lymphocytes
Small leucocytes with very large nucleus.
