components-combustor Flashcards

1
Q

what are the technical requirements of the combustor

A
  • even temperature profile at end to maintain turbine
  • maintain compressor via low stress
  • emissions within ICAO standards
  • dimensions: small volume, lightweight,
  • keep hot gases inside
  • ignite on ground and in air again
  • small consumption (low total pressure loss)
  • be fxn in all conditions (large thrust range)

Q

what are the disadvantages (and advantages)of pipe and ring that lead to mixed

A

pipe: -homogeneous exit temps
+cheap

ring: -expensive
- must replace all
- lighter
- homogenous temps

Q

what are the types of cooling, describe the developments (2 with one broken into 4)

A

film cooling:

  • wiggle strips
  • stacked rings
  • machined rings
  • zrings

transpiration cooling: channels in multiple layers for air to go through
