Audience of an article
Specific audience given in question - article aimed at them
What do you need to include to engage audience?
Example: teenagers, elderly people
Purpose of an article
Entertain a reader
Give information about a specific topic
Persuade reader to take action
Register of an article
Need to consider the topic, audience and purpose of the writing,
Sometimes there may be a clue in the task title (for example, produce a ‘lively’ article) that may help you to decide the type of tone that is most suitable.
Format of an article
No specific rules for an article but you should give your article a clear title.
All articles should be organised into paragraphs.
Subheadings can be used, if relevant.
DON’T DRAW pictures/illustrations, draw box placeholder if you want to include a picture.
Structure of an article
Heading
Introduction - establish where you are writing about - try to grab reader’s attention.
Set tone for article. Include a brief overview.
Paragraph 1 - aspect of the subject that will appeal to reader for example, the location - describe the location and include details that appeal.
Paragraph 2 - another aspect of the subject that will appeal to the reader - for example, the activities. Describe what you can do and give advice, for example: time, price, fun.
Paragraph 3 - final aspect of the day out that will appeal to the reader - for example, eating out.
Include anecdotes, advice and suggestions.
Conclusion - Summarise the subject. Give a few final points to persuade the reader - make it personal!
