didn’t account for individual subcultures and only used evidence from white, middle class, american males tjere file considered ethnocentric

focuses on spectacular subcultures explaining them as responses to social and economical situations and resistance against ruling class

ethnocentric and deterministic in looking for links to social class. also didn’t take into account middle class subcultures which were completely ignored by ccs and most ignored girls
clarke-skinheads
skinheads culture is exaggerated working class masculinity with factory clothes and attitudes. response to the working class being threatened turned to football hooliganism
jefferson- teddy boys
excluded from high emolument and affluence having failed school, wore edwardian clothes to look middle class
hebdige- mods
working class but more affluent and used style to resist middle class with italian suits and scooters
bricolage
used by hebdige to describe pinks repurposing things as fashion accessories pink was a resistance against mainstream media
subculture and working class CCCs
the CCCs say subculture form resistance against capitalism from feelings of deprivation fashion music and attitude play a part
brake (1980)
subcultures are not a practical solution and all will end up confirming later in life
