How do we calculate retained earnings?
Past profits (previous retained earnings) + profit - drawings/dividends
What do closing entries do to temporary accounts?
Produce a zero balance
What are temporary accounts?
Revenue, expenses, dividends
What are the four steps of the closing process?
- Close all Income accounts to Profit or Loss Summary
- Close all Expenses accounts to Profit or Loss Summary
- Close Profit or Loss Summary to Retained Earnings
- Close Owner’s Drawings to Retained Earnings
What is the purpose of reversing entries and when are they done?
To simplify the recording of transactions in the following accounting period, done at the commencement of the next period
What types of BDAs are reversed?
Prepaid revenue (recorded as revenue), prepaid expense (recorded as expense), accrued revenue and accrued expense

What is a reporting entity?
SAC1 defines a reporting entity as any entity in which it is reasonable to assume exists dependent users who need financial statements for information to make economic decisions.
What is a dependent user?
A dependent user is a user of whom needs accounting information but does not have the power to obtain it.
When do we conclude that an entity is a reporting entity?
WHEN THERE ARE USERS OF WHOM NEED ACCOUNTING INFORMATION BUT DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO IT.
