what is acupuncture?
how does it work?
the use of placing needles into specific locations of the body to alleviate pain, improve recovery rates and increase resistance to disease
stimulates the release of endorphins
- neurotransmitters that interact with opiate receptors
- reduces the perception of pain
can also add electrodes to the needles for an enhanced effects
placed for around 10mins and animal ideally needs to stay still
who can do/train to do acupuncture?
only a VS can perform acupuncture
- requires specific course and maintain CPD
VNs can place needles under direction of VS
what is homeopathy?
the use of natural remedies to stimulate the immuhne system
eg: arnica is used to alleviate inflammation and bruising - good post surgery or exercise
what are whole body vibration exercises?
what are the benefits?
the use of vortex wave therapy
- motors which move in a circular motion under a platform patient stands on
- eg a theraplate or wobble cushion
benefits
- strengthens soft tissues
- increases bone density
- increases muscle mass
- reduces inflammation
- improves balance
- provides analgesia
what is magnetic therapy?
what are the benefits?
the use of static magnets to alleviate pain
- normally integrated into collars or rugs
it is designed to increase blood flow which aids healing
