What complaint legislation affects doctors and how is it dealt with?

A

Patients Rights Act

  • any complaint is dealt with efficiently and properly investigated
  • know the outcome
  • can the complaint to ombudsman if dissatisfied
  • can make claim for judicial review
  • right to compensation

Scottish complaints procedure: complaint officer has 5 days to decide where it can be dealt with informally, if formal must acknowledge in 3 days, decide response, give full response in 20 days, patient can respond if dissatisfied etc, must comply with patient rights act
