compiled embryo Flashcards
the failure of a chromosomal pair to separate. It is the NUMBER ONE cause of CHROMOSOMAL ABNORMALITIES and will lead to TRISOMIES and MONOSOMY.
NON-DISJUNCTION
DURING FERTILIZATION, the penetration of the OOCYTE will STIMULATE the COMPLETION of the 2ND MEIOTIC DIVISION and thus PRODUCING the MATURE OOCYTE. The CRUCIAL EVENT here is that the OOCYTE is ARRESTED in
METAPHASE II.
a 7 hour CONDITIONING PERIOD that occurs in the FALLOPIAN TUBE to allow the SPERM to CROSS the CORONA RADIATA and thus the SPERM will UNDERGO the ACROSOMAL REACTION
CAPACITATION
BEFORE BIRTH, the OOGONIA BEGIN MEIOSIS I, where this process of MEIOSIS I is HALTED in…
the PROPHASE I STAGE of the CELL CYCLE.
AT OVULATION the OOCYTE will BEGIN the 2nd MEIOTIC DIVISION and is HALTED in…
METAPHASE II of the CELL CYCLE.
IF AND ONLY WHEN FERTILIZATION OCCURS, you see COMPLETION of MEIOSIS II due to
the BLOCK or HALTED STAGE of METAPHASE II is REMOVED so that the OOCYTE can CONTINUE in its NORMAL CELL LIFE CYCLE.
This # of SPERM will REACH the FERTILIZATION SITE and SURVIVE about 48 hours.
ONLY 200 SPERM
DAY 4: The BLASTOCYST CAVITY form and will contain fluid that passes from the UTERUS through the
ZONA PELLUCIDA to form this CAVITY (BLASTOCYST CAVITY) and the FLUID in this CAVITY will INCREASE in AMOUNT to form a THIN OUTER LAYER and an INNER CELL MASS.
the THIN OUTER LAYER aka the TROPHOBLAST is going to form and produce PLACENTAL TISSUE that will differentiate into the
SYNCTIOTROPHOBLAST and the CYTOTROPHOBLAST.
the INNER CELL MASS is also known as the EMBRYOBLAST, it is this structure that contains AMNIOBLASTS that will line the AMNIOTIC CAVITY and will form the
HYPOBLAST (which is made up of cuboidal cells that will give rise to the EXTRA-EMBRYONIC-COELOM MEMBRANE) and the EPIBLAST (which is made up of tall columnar cells that eventually forms the AMNIOTIC CAVITY that will grow).
SYNCYTIOTROPHOBLASTS will make and elaborate Beta HCG HORMONE in the
CORPUS LUTEUM to support the pregnancy for 2 months
the SYNCYTIOTROPHOBLASTS also have LACUNAE that will form
BLOOD ISLANDS to establish a primitive and functioning FETAL-MATERNAL CIRCULATION.
DAY 5:
EMBRYOBLAST: aka the INNER CELL MASS will form the
HYPOBLAST and the EPIBLAST
DAY 6:
IMPLANTATION: aka the INNER CELL MASS will form the CYTOTROPHOBLAST and the OUTER CELL LAYER which will eventually become the
SYNCYTIOTROPHOBLAST.
DAY 6:
The BLASTOCYST CAVITY attaches to the ENDOMETRIAL CAVITY to cause the proliferation of the TROPHOBLAST and will subsequently change its name and become the
UMBILICAL VESICLE aka the YOLK SAC.
