- I volunteered to lead on the D&P side and undertook pilot studies to develop knowledge and strategies to undertake this type of work

- I’ve since completed a few successful studies and am driving the expansion
B1. Analyse environmental issues

- In the absence of good EA data, I undertook a modelling study to refine the understanding of flood risk at the site
- To inform this study I needed to gather additional information: topographic survey, photos of the channel

- Developed following options in order to progress work given lack of EA data
1) Complete new model
2) Update existing EA model
3) Apply nominal allowances to existing outputs
B3. Ability to manage change
Shenley Wood
- Originally strategy for outline planning
- Mid-way through the project the client changed their approach to a hybrid application
- To manage this change I: held meetings with the engineering team, decided to split the work between myself and the engineering team
- I also have to agree a scope and fee extension with the client
I’ve also managed change when dealing with objections at planning
B4. Plan solutions and monitor continuous performance
When building models (1D/2D fluvial and surface water networks) I complete them in stages, adding structures one at a time and then running the model to monitor performance as changes are made. This means that if one change leads to instability, I can better pin point the problems and if needed go back to the previous iteration.
C1. Manage resources
- I train graduates and other junior members of staff on development and planning work
- I developed the FRA template that is now used widely across the company. I originally developed this to improve efficiencies
- I’ve also developed a spreadsheet to manage time spent versus budgeted hours

- IMS is developed in accordance with ISO 9001 which means that all PM work I do regarding the set up of projects and financial management is set up with quality in mind
- I have responsibility to ensure the quality of my own work before it’s reviewed by an appropriate person
- FRA template promotes quality
