Toradol (ketorolac)
NSAID ANALGESIC
Route: IVP over 15 seconds
Dose: 30 mg undiluted
SE: anaphylaxis d/t hypersensitivity, nausea, GI bleeding, sedation, hypotension, rash, headache, edema
RhoGAM
immunoglobulin
Route: IM
Dose: 300 ug
within 72 hours
blood details
SE: headache, chills, fever, decreased hemoglobin
Given to Rh- moms at 28 wks, 72 wks, & after delivery
Pt teaching: may cause drowsiness or dizziness
MMR vaccine
Route: SQ
Dose: 0.5 ml
SE: soreness, fever, rash, pain, & joint stiffness
TDAP vaccine
Route: IM
Dose: 0.5 ml
SE: pain, redness, swelling, n/v/d, muscle aches & pain
Ancef (Cefazolin)
ANTIBIOTIC
Route: IVPB
Dose: 500mg-2g every 6-8 hours
SE: seizures, rash, cramps, SJS, n/v/d
Vitamin K injection
BABY
Route: IM Dose: 0.5-1 mg (0.25-0.5 ml) within 2 hours of birth -can be repeated if newborn shows bleeding tendencies
SE: edema, erythema, & pain at injection site occur rarely
-hemolysis, jaundice & hyperbilirubinemia have been reported - particularly in preterm infants
Hep B vaccine
BABY
Route: IM
Dose: 0.5 ml (10 mcg)
(at 0, 1, & 6 mos)
SE: pain at injection site - mild to moderate fever and chills
Eye prophylaxis
BABY
ophthalmic anti-infective (to prevent chlamydia)
given within 1 hour of birth
- a line of ointment 1-2 cm long is placed in the lower conjunctival sac
- gently massage closed eyelids to aid in absorption and dispersion of ointment
- after 1 minute, remove any excess ointment from eye using sterile gauze
- do not rinse
SE: edema, inflammation, & discharge for 24-48 hours
