competency 5 Flashcards
Pectoral traction
- increases lymph movement by increasing negative pressure in thorax
- grab dem pectoralis majors
- apply force when pt inhales and resist movement of exhalation
Dome Diaphragm lymphatic treatment
- increases lymph flow by relaxing the diaphragm so it can make greater pressure gradients
- get lymph back to venous circulation
- improves diaphragm excursion–> improves ability to move lymph back centrally
Rib Raise Seated
purpose is to stimulate sympathetic chain ganglia and improve lymph flow in area 1
Rib raise Supine
helps lymph flow by stimulating sympathetic chain ganglia initially followed by decreased stimulation
-improves rib cage excursion with resulting increase pressure gradients
Tapotement lymphatic treatment
-this helps to break loos consolidated material for improved drainage and expulsion from lungs
Thoracic pump
- moves lymph fluid by affecting pressure gradients
- meant to clear thoracic duct region
- works well for COPD, URI, LRI, swollen upper extremities,
- enhances immune function
- remember this one has the 2 components to it
Abdominal pump
helps to move lymph fluid by INDIRECTLY affecting pressure gradients and indirectly massaging the thoracic duct at its origin in cisterna chyli
Sacral Rocking
purpose is to relax the muscles at the lumbosacral junction
Effleurage lymphatic treatment for zone 3
purpose is to aid in movement of lymph fluid toward central core of body (direct pressure technique to move lymph)
Petrissage lymphatic treatment for zone 3
purpose is to aid in movement of lymph fluid toward central core of body (direct pressure technique to move lymph)
Effleurage for zone 4
purpose is to aid in movement of lymph fluid toward central core of body (direct pressure technique to move lymph)
Petrissage for zone 4
purpose is to aid in movement of lymph fluid toward central core of body (direct pressure technique to move lymph)
Iliotibial Band Effleurage for zone 4
-purpose is to reduce lymphatic congestion to aid other treatments to the IT band
Pedal Pump
-purpose is to passively move fluid centrally by creating an oscillatory pump
Cervical stroking
- purpose is to stretch muscle groups surrounding cervical vertebrae and move lymph fluid in process
- remember to do this one side at a time…
Anterior Cervical traction for zone 5
- this is the one with the sternocleidomastoid
- may be repeated up to 3 times
Pre and Post auricular
-purpose is to provide a direct pressure technique to move lymph fluid in the head and neck region
Mandibular drainage: Galbreath Technique
-purpose is to do a direct pressure technique to move lymph fluid in the head and neck
Submandibular lymphatic treatment
-purpose is to do a direct pressure technique to move lymph fluid in the head and neck region
Anterior tracheal/ deep cervical
-purpose is to perform a direct pressure technique to move lymph fluid int he per-tracheal node region
Suprahyoid and Infrahyoid
-purpose is to perform a direct pressure technique to move lymph in area 5
Thoracic Inlet (myofascial release)
contact the SC, angle of rib1, thumbs on T-1 transverse process bilaterally
