Deductive reasoning
A
uses general information to come to a specific conclusion. The conclusion must be true if the premises are true.
Ex) Premise 1: Socrates is a man.
Premise 2: All men are mortal
Conclusion: Therefore, Socrates is mortal.

Inductive reasoning
A
Uses specific information to come to a general conclusion. The conclusion may or may not be true, even if the premises are true.
Ex) Premise 1: The sun came up this morning.
Premise 2: The sun came up the day before that.
Premise 3: The sun came up the day before that.
Conclusion: Therefore, the sun comes up everyday,
and will come up tomorrow, too.
