COMPARISON OF APPROACHES Flashcards
BEHAVIOURIST VS HUMANISTIC
- BOTH USE OBSERVATIONAL METHODS
- BEHAVIOURIST MORE SCIENTIFIC
- IDIOGRAPHIC VS NOMOTHETIC (CASE STUDIES)
- HUMANISTIC FOCUS ON HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
BEHAVIOURIST VS PSYCHODYNAMIC
BOTH NOMOTHETIC
BOTH HAD APPLICATIONS IN THERAPY
BOTH HAD HUGE IMPACTS ON PSYCHOLOGY
FREUD USE CASE STUDIES
BEHAVIOURIST VS SLT
HARD DETERMINISM VS SOFT DETERMINISM
NURTURE
NOMOTHETIC
PSYCHODYNAMIC VS HUMANISTIC
NOMOTHETIC VS IDIOGRAPHIC
PSYCHODYNAMIC ARGUES NATURE, VS HUMANISTIC ARGUES NURTURE
BOTH REJECT SCIENTIC METHODS
BOTH USE CASE STUDIES
PSYCHODYNMAIC VS SLT
PSYCHIC DETERMINISM VS SOFT DETERMINISM
PSYCHODYNAMIC ARGUES NATURE, SLT ARGUES NURTURE
SLT USES SCIENTIFIC METHODS, WHILST PSYCHODYNAMIC USES CASE STUDIES
HUMANISTIC VS SLT
FREE WILL VS SOFT DETERMINISM
BOTH AGREE ON NURTURE
SLT NOMOTHETIC, HUMANISTIC IDIOGRAPHIC
SLT USES MOSTLY SCIENTFIC METHODS, WHILST HUMANISTIC REJECTS THESE
HOW TO TACKLE COMPARISON OF APPROACHES QUESTIONS:
- Similarities and differences (issues and debates or evaluation points e.g ‘they both have key practical applications..)
- If the question asks you to outline a key approach and THEN compare – do 2 paras on A01 for that theory, and then move on to the comparison (x 3 points)
- You have to PEEL on both AO3 points, and issue and debate points (they are both determinist… this is seen for example…. This is then seen…. This demonstrates that both these approaches…)
