Compare/Contrast Flashcards
What is a Ectropion lid? Good Cl candidate?
Eye lid going out. Not a candidate for CL, it will dry out, increase cause of infection.
What is a Entropion eye lid? CL Candidate?
Eye lid going in. Not a candidate.
What causes a Stye? (Other name) (Hordeolum) What’s the symptom
A bacterial infection of an oil gland in the eyelid, white puss pimple look, top of skin, painful
What is a Chalazion? What’s the symptom.
Blockage of the meibomian glands, deeper in the skin. No pain unless it gets too big
What’s GPC? Giant papillary conjunctivitis. Caused how?
Bumps inside upper lid. Contact lens issues, allergies, and foreign object. Cl protien buildup.
Corneal Ulcer
A corneal ulcer (also known as keratitis) is an open sore on the cornea. White cloudy look. Will stain with Fluorescein.
Dendritic Ulcer
Related to herpes simplex. Virus infection. Branch like features
Pinguecula
Yellowish dot on the eye. Usually caused by UV
Pterygium
Pinkish, roughly triangular tissue growth on the conjunctiva onto the cornea of the eye. Due to UV
Corneal Abrasion
A scratch
Foreign body
Something in the eye
Fluorescent VS rose Bengal
Fluorescein is used to stain damaged corneal epithelium VS rose bengal stains more aggressively, targeting damaged or dying cells on the ocular surface,
Radial K
Is a type of refractive surgery meant to correct myopia or nearsightedness. Not used anymore Cuts towards the pupil.
Keratoplasty
Corneal Transplant. Stitches around Iris
Subconjunctival hemorrhage
Looks like a bloody eye. A broken blood vessel in the eye
Hyphema
Pooling of blood in anterior chamber
Basal Cell
Flatter bumps (Skin cancer) more severe
Squamous cell Carcinoma
More raised bumps (skin cancer) less severe
What does WTR CL lens with Fluoricene look like
Less fluoricene horizontal. It’s steeper vertical so the flurerince pools there
What does ATR with Cl and Fluoricene look like
Less Fluoricine vertical. It’s steeper horizontal so the fluorcince pools horizontally.
Steep fitting lens looks like?
Pooling in the centre and edge lift, air bubble. Not enough movement.
Flat fitting lens looks like?
No flurocine in the middle, lots of pooling in the peripheral. Too much movement.
What does a truncated lens look like? Used why?
A CL with the bottom cut off. Typically use for stabilization of bifocal or toric lens. Or prism.
What is fenestration?
It’s when we put three holes in a RGP so there’s more oxygen and tier exchange
Arcus Senilis
Grey ring around the Iris. Usually in older people
Neovascularization
Is when veins go into the iris
Ptosis
Droopy eyelid
