Apprehension test
- Apprehension test
a. Patient is seated.
b. Put arm in external rotation
d. Doc stabilizes shoulder to block linkage
e. Force arm into external rotation
f. + test apprehension to movement
g. Indicates: glenohumeral instability
- Sulcus test
a. Pt relaxes hand
b. Grab elbow and pull down
c. + test indention below acromion
d. Indicates glenohumeral instability
Yergasons Test
A. have put their arm to their side at 90 degrees
B. Doc palpates the bicipital groove
C. With other hand, grab wrist
D. Have patient supinate and externally rotate while you resist
E. + test: pain
F. Indicates unstable bicipital tendon
Speeds test
A. Flex shoulder, supinated to 90
B. Tell pt to resist the docs downward pressure
C. + test: pain
D. Indicates biciptal tendonitis of longhead biceps
Empty Can test
A. Flex shoulder to 90 B. Horizontally abduct to 45 C. Internally rotate to thumbs are down D. Doc presses down while pt resists E. + test: pain F. Indicates prob with rotator cuff (spec supraspinatus)
Drop arm test
A. Tell pt to abduct arms to 90 B. Slowly drop arms C. Doc taps wrist \+ indicator arm drops quickly Indicator: tear of supraspinatus
Painful arc test
A Tell pt to put arms to side and abduct shoulder
+ test if pain is felt from 60-120 degrees
Indicates: rotator cuff injury
Neer impingement
A. Have pt sit B. Use hand to depress scapula C. With other hand, internally rotate arm and fully flex it upwards \+ test: pain Inidicates: rotator cuff impingement
Hawkins test
A. Have it sit B. Flex shoulder to 90 C. Flex elbow to 90 D. Doc internally rotates hand E. + sign: pain F. Indicates: rotator cuff impingement
Lift Off Test
Place patient’s arm into internal rotation and
extension. Patient pushes arm into further
internal rotation as physician resists.
(+) Test: Weakness (inability to resist)
Indicates: Subscapularis weakness
