How to answer - main spiel?

Safeguarding concerns?
- Do they need immediate protection? 999 and admit to place of safety
- Speak to your safeguarding lead
- Take a full and thorough history and examination
- Treat immediate medical problems
What is included in a full and thorough history and examination?
- wt, ht, head circumference
- Injuries recorded on a topographical chart
- Document how they interact with the carer
- If sexual abuse -> pregnancy test/STI testing
What steps may be taken with help of safeguarding lead?
- Check child protection register
- Consider making a referral to Cambridgeshire or Peterborough children’s social care with a statutory intervention form (SIF)
- Refer to the multi-agency safeguarding hub (MASH); involve social services and NSPCC
FGM?
If confirmed FGM < 18yo then contact police
If FGM is identified in an adult - refer to gynaecology (with consent)
Sexual and domestic abuse safeguarding
- Do they need immediate protection? 999 and admit to place of safety (need consent in adults)
- Speak to safeguarding lead
- Take full and thorough history and examination (be empathetic and taking time)
