it is “a quantitative and qualitative description of the health of citizens and the factors which influence their health
what does community diagnosis seek to achieve?
It identifies problems, proposes areas for improvement and stimulates action
what is the importance of community diagnosis?
to act as a data reference for the district
to provide an overall picture of the local community and the residents’ concerns
to suggest priority areas for intervention and the feasible solutions
to indicate the resource allocation and the direction of work plans
to create opportunities for intersectoral collaboration and media involvement
to form basis of setting indicators for health evaluation
Discuss the data with concerned people including the community leaders and appropriate health intervention should be planned

To obtain the cooperation and participation of leaders and members in the community in the field work

In order to initiate a community diagnosis project, a dedicated committee or working group should be set up to manage and coordinate the project
what does data collection and analysis entail?
The project should collect both quantitative and qualitative data
In order to ensure reliability of the findings, an experienced organisation such as an academic institute can be employed for conducting the study
what are the components of community diagnosis?
Demography, including all vital rates
The causes of morbidity and mortality by age and sex
Use of health services, including especially maternal and child health clinics
Nutrition, diet and weaning patterns and growth of preschool and school children
Society, culture and socioeconomic stratification
The pattern of leadership and communication within the community

Mental health together with the assessment of common sources of stress
Environment, especially water, housing, and vectors of disease
Knowledge, attitudes and practices of the population in respect to health related activities

Community entry refers to the process, principles and techniques of community mobilisation and participation
what does community entry entail?
This involves recognising the community, its leadership and people and adopting the most appropriate process in meeting, interacting and working with them
