What is Community Care Treatment?

ACT is particularly effective for those who?

Who runs ACT?
Community mental health services (usually run by the NHS).
What activities take place in ACT?
Group therapy, allowing people to socialise and feel welcome in society.
List three studies that proved its effectiveness.
Japanese-Nishio et al (2012) shows a better outcome for people with ACT.
Netherlands- Van Vugt et al (2011) found similar- better outcomes and social skills.
What are the problems with replicating the programme?
In less populated areas it can be hard to accurately and effectively replicate this programme.
Evaluative strengths.
Nishio et al, and van Vugt et al both found effectiveness in treatment of schizophrenia.
ACT tends to work across genders, ages and cultures, as the premise is the same for all.
It has been shown to work when focusing on social interactions, and the importance of this for Schizophrenia.
Evaluative weaknesses.
It helps functioning, but doesn’t lessen any positive or negative features.
It works less in sparsely populated areas.
It has been researched, and it appears that the participant surrenders all control and responsibility.
