Communiction And Homeostasis Flashcards
Negative feedback
A process that brings about a reversal of any change in conditions
Positive feeback
A process that increases any change detected by the receptors
Stimulus
Any change in the environment that causes a response
Response
A change in behaviour or physiology as a result of a change in the environment
Ectotherm
An organism that relies on external sources of heat to regulate its body temperature
Endotherm
An organism that can use internal sources of heat to maintain body temperature
Endothermic in high temperatures
Physiological: vasodilation, sweating and panting, hairs lie flat providing lil insulation
Behavioural: seek shade, move less, cool drinks, orientate body to increase surface area
Homeostasis
The maintenance of the internal environment in a constant state despite changes in the external environment
Sensory receptors
Specialised cells that can detect changes in he environment
