deepfake (n)
a video of a person in which their appearance has been digitally altered so that they look like somebody else
Ex: Social media companies need to do more to combat deepfake.
doom-scrolling (n)
the action of constantly scrolling through and reading depressing news on a news site or on social media, esp on a phone
Ex: With her endless doom-scrolling, it’s hardly surprising she’s so depressed.
sock puppetry (n)
the act of creating and using a false online identity, usually in order to promote your own opinions
Ex: Sock puppetry can be used to artificially boost the support for a particular position or belief.
hotspot
(1) a place where fighting is common, especially for political reasons => world hotspot
(2) a place with a particular kind of danger or problem => pollution hotspot
kiosk (n)
a small structure in a public area used for providing information, showing advertisements or providing a service, typically via a computer screen
=> a digital information kiosk
mouthpiece (of/for sb)
(often disapproving) a person, newspaper, etc. that speaks to represent another person or group of people
Ex: The media is controlled by the state and acts as a mouthpiece for the ruling party.
hackathon
an event at which a lot of people come together to write or improve computer programs
Ex: Facebook marked its sixth birthday by holding an all-night hackathon to develop new software.
abandonware
software that is no longer produced or supported by the company that originally made it

sb who posts angry messages or like to get into arguments on the internet
