Prevents children from getting distracted by other things.

Gesture
Used alongside words and instructions, gesture helps children to understand what is being said.
- pointing to an object while saying a word
- nodding to indicate understanding
- use facial expressions to show interest
- using bestie to support the meaning of what is being said
Body language
Children pick up on the body language of adults. To prevent confusion body language should match what you are saying.
- having a relaxed open body position and not have arms or legs crossed
- smile to encourage communication
Active listening
Active listening demonstrates interest in, and an understanding of, what someone is saying.

- paraphrasing
