What is positioning?
The process of establishing and maintaining a positive image of the agency in the minds of the community and elected officials
What are the purpose of friends groups?
To Support parks and rec agencies through activities like fundraising, providing volunteers, working on projects, and supporting the agency in achieving its mission and goals
Why do parks and rec agencies seek input from the public?
Policy changes, strategic planning, and park development
What are the methods that parks and rec use to get public input?
Public meetings, focus groups, advisory groups, surveys, and referendum
What is a referendum?
An issue that is placed on the ballot to allow the voters to make the decision
What is the vision of an organization?
An ideal image of what an organization will look like in the future
What is a mission statement?
The fundamental purpose statement depicting what the agency does
What are structural integration?
Interdepartmental and interorganizational relationships
How can a parts and rec staff legally advocate and lobby for their joband programs?
Identify yourself as a concerned community member, not a government employee.
Don’t use federal or state funds to pay for lobbying activities.
What are collaborations?
Two or more stakeholders working together to provide a service that an agency cannot do alone
What are alliances?
Stronger and more formalized collaborations
What is a partnership integration?
A formal joint venture
What is an organizational structure?
How job tasks are formally categorized and designed
What is the chain of command?
The line of authority between supervisor and employee
What is a good rule of thumb in regards to chain of command?
Keep your supervisor sufficiently informed about issues, but not every detail.
What is a marketing plan?
A written document that assesses the current state of marketing as well as its future direction.
What does a marketing plan include?
An executive summary
A situational analysis
Customer analysis
Marketing and branding goals and strategies
Implementations, monitoring, and evaluation
What does public information services include?
New releases, printed materials, websites and apps, social media
