What is professional identity?
The concept that describes how we perceive ourselves within our occupation and how we communicate this to other people.

What are the 5 legal and ethical concepts that nurses must abide by?
Consent - permission given beforehand.
Accountability - answering to yourself and others for your actions.
Confidentiality - keeping information between you and relevant others.
Duty of care - acting within certain standards.
Candour - being open and honest when things go wrong.

What is a clinical risk?
Exposure to the possibility of loss, injury or adverse circumstance.
What is a hazard?
A potential source of harm on a person.
What is an adverse event?
An unexpected medical problem that happens during treatment with a drug/therapy. Can vary in severity.
What is a serious incident?
An incident that occurred in relation to care resulting in avoidable and unexpectable death of one of more patients/staff/visitors.
What is Datix?
An incident reporting system that gives feedback to the reporter about actions taken to address the situation and allows them to view certain trends in incidents.
What are the four theoretical concepts of Person-Centred Nursing Framework by McCormack and McCance (2010) ?
- Prerequisites - attributes of the nurse
- The Care Environment - Context of care delivery
- Person-centred processes - how care is delivered eg: shared decision making, holistic care
- Expected outcomes - eg: patient involvement and satisfaction with care
What is self-awareness?
The process of understanding your own beliefs, thoughts and motivations and how they affect others.

The freedom and ability to make informed decisions
What is non-maleficence?
To do/cause no harm
What is beneficence?
To do good to others

Equal distribution of benefits

The obligation to tell the truth
