Appendectomy (appy)
surgical removal of the appendix
Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)
surgical procedure performed to relieve angina and reduce the risk of death from coronary artery disease
Cholecystectomy (chole)
surgical removal of the gallbladder
Colectomy
consists of the surgical resection of any extent of the large intestine (colon)
Herniorrhaphy
surgical repair of a hernia
Hysterectomy (hyst)
surgical removal of the uterus
*may involve removal of the cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and other surrounding structures.
Mastectomy
usually carried out to treat breast cancer; removal of the breast
*operation can be done prophylactically
Nephrectomy
surgical procedure to remove all or part of a kidney
- Complete (or Radical) Nephrectomy involves the full removal of the kidney
Oophorectomy
surgical procedure to remove one or both of your ovaries
Salpingectomy
removal of the fallopian tube
Salpingo-oophorectomy
surgical removal of both the fallopian tubes and ovaries
Tonsillectomy
surgical removal of the tonsils in which each tonsil is removed from a recess in the side of the pharynx called the tonsillar fossa
Tubal Ligation
surgical procedure for sterilization in which a woman’s fallopian tubes are clamped and blocked, or severed and sealed.
