Chest X-ray
detects pneumonia, broken ribs, lung tumors, enlarged heart
Upper GI X-ray
Aids in diagnosis of ulcers, GI tumors, narrowing of esophagus
Lower GI X-ray
Aids in diagnosis of polyps or tumors of the bowel, intestinal obstruction, and structural changes within the intestine
Cholecystography (X-ray of the gallbladder and ducts)
Helps determine presence of gallstones and obstruction in the flow of bile
Intravenous Pyelography (IVP)
Helps identify urinary malformation, tumors, stones, cysts, and obstructions in the kidneys/urethra
Retrograde pyelography
Same as IVP, but contrast medium is used through a urinary cath.
angiography (X-ray of blood vessels)
determines location and the extent to which the blood vessels may have narrowed, or evaluates improvement after treatment
Myelography (X-ray of spinal canal)
Detects spinal tumors, ruptured discs, and bony changes in vertibrae
