Trauma
Neck of fibula fracture
Knee dislocation
Hip fractures causing sciatic nerve injury
Compartment syndrome
L4-l5 disk herniations
What clinical features are seen in foot drop pt?
Numbness, Tingling, Pain.
Foot drop; anterior leg muscles paralysis, Loss of dorsiflexion and toe extension.
Loss of eversion.
Sensosry loss - anterolateral aspect of the leg and dorsum of the foot.
Except regions supplied by saphenous and sural nerves
Diagnosis for foot drop
Imaging; MRI, CT
Nerve conduction studies
Electromyography
Drag or slap test
Heel walk test – Pt. attempts to walk on their heel, difficulty initiating or keeping foot in the air
Manual muscle test (MMT)
Step up and down test
Jump test
Treatment for foot drop
Treat underlying cause.
Non-surgical; Splints, Physical therapy.
Surgical; Decompression, Nerve repair, graft or tendon transfer.
