는 or 은

A

Placed after a word to indicate that it is the subject of a sentence.
* 는 is used when the last letter of the last syllable of the subject is a vowel.*

은 is used when the last letter of the last syllable is a consonant.

A

  • use 를 the last letter of the last syllable is a vowel*
  • use 을 when the last letter of the last syllable is a consonant*

이다 (to be)

A
  • used to represent all “to be” words*
  • can be conjugated*
  • similar to verbs and adjectives, but rules for 이다 are always different*
  • cannot act on an object.. only verbs can act on objects*
  • 이다 is not used to indicate that something “is” an adjective*
  • 이다 is used to indicate a noun is a noun*

이=this
use 이 when your talking about something in touching distance
이 is placed before a noun it’s describing
그/ 저= that
* use 그 when talking about something from previous sentences or previous context*
use 저 when talking about something that we can see but can’t touch bc it’s too far away
place 그/ 저 before a noun to describe “this or that”
그/ 저 dont have the same meaning in Korean

것= thing

  • when 이,그,저 is placed before “것” it’s results in a compound word*
  • 이,그,저 should not be spaced when next to “것”*
  • when used as a determiner in Korean place 그 before a noun*
  • when used as a pronoun use 그것*
  • 이,그,저 translate to this, that, and that. Are placed before nouns to indicate… this noun, that noun, and that noun*
  • ”이것,그것,저것” are pronouns. They don’t need to be followed by the word “thing” even though the meaning would be the same*
