Common lab equipment Flashcards
Ceramic Triangle
Goes on an iron ring to prevent a crucible from cracking while its being heated
Crucible (and cover)
Used to contain Chemical compounds when heated to extremely high temperatures
evaporating dish
used to evaporate excess solvents, most commonly water, to produce a concentrated solution or solid precipitate of the dissolved substance
test tubes
used to mix, heat or store substances
beaker
used for stirring, mixing and heating liquids
retort stand
clamps can be attached to hold test tubes or other equipment such as burettes which is most commonly used in titration experiments. It is used for carrying out distillation experiments which includes distillation of acids
Buret/burette
A device used in analytical chemistry for the dispensing of variable, measured amounts of a chemical solution. A volumetric burette delivers measured volumes of liquid.
Test tube clamp
Used to clamp onto a retort stand to hold a test tube
Iron ring
Is attached to a retort stand and is used to support laboratory equipment above the work surface
Wire gauze
Placed on top of the iron ring to support beakers and flasks when heating them
Bunsen Burner
Produces a single open gas flame, which is used for heating, sterilization and cumbustion
