Common Interacting Drugs Flashcards
1
Q
Drugs with a narrow therapeutic index
A
Warfarin, Digoxin, Phenytoin, Theophylline
2
Q
Drugs which require careful dosage control
A
Antihypertensives (due to risk of hypotension) Antidiabetic drugs (due to risk of hypoglycaemia)
3
Q
Cytochrome P450 Enzyme Inducers
reduce concentrations of these drugs - e.g. with warfarin, reduces INR
A
CRAP GPS induce me to madness Carbamazepine Rifampicin Alcohol (chronic) Phenytoin Griseofulvin Phenobarbitone Sulphonylureas \+St John's wort
4
Q
Cytochrome P450 Enzyme Inhibitors
increase concentrations, e.g. in warfarin they increase INR
A
SICKFACES.COM Sodium valproate Isoniazid Cimetidine Ketoconazole Fluconazole and other anti-fungals Alcohol (acute), amiodarone, allopurinol Chloramphenicol Erythromycin Sulfonamides , SSRIs Ciprofloxacin Omeprazole Metronidazole \+grapefruit juice \+disulfiram
5
Q
P450 Metabolised Drugs
A
CCCOWPPATSS Ciclosporin Carbamazepine Citalopram OCP Warfarin Phenytoin Protease inhibitors (HIV drugs) ACh inhibitors (e.g. donepezil for Alzheimer's) Theophylline Tacrolimus Steroids
6
Q
Drugs with interactions with alcohol causing:
- GI bleeding
- Anticoagulation changes
- Sweating, flushing, nausea and vomiting
- Lactic acidosis
- Hypertensive crisis
- Sedation
A
- NSAIDs, inc. aspirin
- Warfarin - acute intoxication causes enzyme inhibition and so increased effect, chronic causes enzyme infucion and so reduced effect
- Metronidazole, disulfiram
- Metformin
- Monoamine Oxidase inhibitors
- Barbiturates, opioids and benzodiazepines
