A

TB (Tuberculosis) is caused by a bacterium that needs oxygen to grow. It grows in the parts of the body where there is lots of oxygen, for example the brain and lungs.

A

Diabetes is a condition that causes the body to not produce enough of the hormone insulin. Insulin is needed to take up the glucose in our bloodstream, which we get from the food we eat. There are 2 types of diabetes: Type 1 and 2.

Anorexia is an eating disorder that is mainly found in adolescent girls who become overly concerned with their body image and weight. It may be caused by biological factors, genetics, emotional and personality disorders or cultural and family pressure.

What causes HIV and Aids?

A

HIV affects the normal functioning of the immune system. About half of people with HIV develop Aids within 10 years if they aren’t treated. When people have Aids, they can more easily catch a disease in their environment because of their weakened immune system.
