subject

A

The subject of a sentence is whom or what the sentence is about.

Example: The woman bought two tickets to the concert.

This sentence is about the woman. Therefore, the subject is the woman.

A

The predicate of a sentence tells what the subject is or what it does.

Everything in the sentence that is not part of the subject is part of the predicate.

A group of words must pass three tests in order to be a complete sentence:

1) It must have a subject that tells whom or what the sentence is about.
2) It must have a predicate that tells what the subject is or does.
3) It must express a complete thought.
