Bike Tag
Anyone on a bike, motorcycle, scooter, moped, etc.
BLT
Oncoming vehicle that may turn left in front of you (Bad Left Turn).
Bus Tag
Any bus encountered on the roadway (school bus, Metro, etc).
Check 1
Checking the rearview mirror (“1”) every 8-12 seconds for vehicles within 3-5 car lengths behind you.
Say: “Check 1” AND either “Clear” or “Tag” depending on the situation.
Clear
Indicates intersection and/or pathway is free of vehicles to both sides and/or behind you.
Diaper Sniper
Kids 3 years old and younger. Important in scanning neighborhood areas. EHP Eye Holding Problem; something that takes your focus from the road ahead. Flag Tag Anytime entering a construction zone.

Foot Tag
A pedestrian on either side of the road, or in the road.
Flow Speed
The average speed that traffic is moving.
Fresh Green
A traffic signal that has just turned green (or lit “walk” signs allowing peds to cross side intersections)
Gas Pedal
On a Fresh Green light, if you are 1 to 4 cars behind the front car, wait for the car in front of you to move and count “1,2,3 Gas Pedal” before you go. This builds in a safe following distance right away.
Pusher
A tailgater who follows too closely behind us.
Signal 1,2,3
After checking traffic and prior to changing lanes, we Signal and check in the direction of intended movement: rearview mirror (1), side-view mirror (2), and blind-spot (3). Move over if safe.
Slug
A driver who is generally in no hurry and travelling under the speed limit.
Sneaky Right
A threat of a car pulling out in front of you from a stopped position to the right.
Stale Green
A green light that has been green for a while, or one that you did not see turn green.
Tail-waggers
Any animal in or around the roadway that might run out into the road.
Tag
Indicates an intersection and/or pathway has a vehicle(s) to the side(s) and/or behind you. Thief Someone who steals your safe space right in front of your vehicle (cuts you off). Trap 1 Anything that stops you or slows you down, including stop signs, signal lights, slowing traffic, etc. Call “Trap 1” AND either “Clear” or “Tag”
Wheel Check
Stop where you can see some pavement behind the back tires of the car in front of you. Rev: 8/2020
123 Class Pedal

Good to Go
After stopping but before moving, check traffic to the Left (Good), Center (To), Right (Go).
Double Check
As you begin to move after calling “Good to Go”, check the two ways you’re NOT going to double check.
Go Point
Approaching a green light, call this out when you are about 2 seconds away from entering the intersection and can no longer stop safely if the light turns yellow. If the light turns yellow before you call “Go Point,” you will stop. Parents need to assist their student driver on proper location and timing.
Intruder
A vehicle that moves within 3-5 car lengths of the side of your vehicle within the “strike zone.”
LSD
Limited Sight Distance is when you can’t see more than 10 seconds ahead. (“Can’t quite see, LSD.”)
New Fish
Merging traffic entering onto the freeway.
Speed Check
Announce the posted speed limit by saying “Speed Check” AND the posted speed (e.g. 25), check the speedometer, and adjust your speed as necessary.
EHP
Eye Holding Problem; something that takes your focus from the road ahead.
