Describe
State the points of a topic.
Give characteristics and main features.
Detailed elaborations are not required.
Explain
Set out purposes or reasons.
Make the relationships between things evident.
Provide why and how and support with relevant evidence.
You must use your biological knowledge to answer the question
rather than just stating what you see from the question.
Comment
Give an informed opinion.
You may argue from both sides
(I.e. agree and disagree, as long as you reason them properly).
Compare
Identify/comment on both similarities and differences.
Contrast
Identify/comment on differences only.
Define
Give the precise meaning of a term.
Determine
Establish an answer using the information available.
Refer to the data/ information in the question.
Outline
Set out main points.
Detailed elaboration NOT necessary.
Predict
Suggest what may happen based on available information.
Support w/ evidence available or your biological knowledge.
Sketch
Make a simple drawing showing the key features.
State
Express briefly in clear terms.
Suggest
Apply knowledge and understanding to situations where there are a range of valid responses to make proposals or put forward considerations.
Do not provide only one possibility and keep elaborating on it.
