Comeng- Underframe And Brakes Flashcards
What does the Primary safety equipment consist of? (TECHAV)
-Trip
-Emergency Application Valve
-Control governor
-Hand pilot valve
-Anti-neutralisation device
-VICERS Activation valve
What must be done when driving with the Red EC cock isolated?
(Secondary circuit)
-Foot pilot valve must be used
-Control Governor By-Pass button activated
-VICERS must be isolated
What is the function of the Yellow TECHAV cock?
To isolate the safety apparatus on a trailing motor should it become defective
Can a driver uncouple a train with the ripcord?
No, only maintenance staff can
What are the positions of the couple indicator?
Inline= coupled
Diagonal= uncoupled
Beneath the rubber cover on a coupler is a selection lever (for non-electrical coupling)
Under normal operation, which side does it point towards?
A side
What are the two isolating cocks on the coupler?
B side= Main reservoir IC
A side= Brake pipe IC
Out of the main reservoir hose and brake pipe hose, which is larger in diameter?
Brake pipe is larger than
How many trumpets does the whistle have?
Three
What is a transition coupler for?
Can we use it?
What is it locked with?
Used for attaching to locomotives
We cannot use it, only maintenance can
5P padlock
What is an equalising reservoir?
Forms part of the Brake Controller equipment
Allows the Brake pipe to be charged
What does the Pantograph storage reservoir do?
Supplies air to raise the pantograph (that car only) when no Main Res air is available
Where does the air for the Trip latching lever come from?
Control reservoir
What does a Compressor Governor Isolating Cock do?
Isolates the main reservoir air supply to the Compressor Governor
Used when it becomes defective
What does the Control Reservoir Out isolating cock do?
Isolates the flow of air from the control reservoir to the electro-pneumatic valves in the main equipment case and line breaker case
What does the Pantograph Interlock switch do? (On the elec equip case)
Can we operate it?
Isolates main reservoir air to the pantograph, causing it to lower on that motor
Cannot operate it
What does the Auxiliary Isolating Switch do? (On the elec equip case)
Can we operate it?
Isolates the 1500v DC power supply to the motor alternator and air compressor. Pantograph interlock must be isolated first
Cannot operate it
What does the Bogie #2 Brake Isolating cock do?
Isolates air pressure from the Brake unit to the brake cylinders of the #2 bogie
Also releases any pressure-existing air pressure in the brake cylinders to atmosphere releasing the brake on that bogie (self-venting)
What are the electrical cables between a motor car and trailer car?
Two outer cables= 415v AC
Centre cable= 110v DC
Lower cable (square plug)= CCTV and PEI
What does a Motor alternator run on?
What does it supply?
Runs on 1500v DC
Supplies 415V AC
What is powered by the 415v AC?
-Saloon lighting
-Headlights
-Air conditioners
-Traction cooling fan
What does the Dryer and Filter do?
Removes moisture and contaminates from the compressed air system
What does the Auxiliary Reservoir do?
Stores compressed air to feed into the Brake Cylinders while Automatic Air Braking
Where is the #1 Air suspension system isolating cock located?
(Motor car)
Above and between the #7 and #8 wheels
