Describe tragedy
- Characters: individuals(hamlet)
- Plot is about: the downfall of the protagonist due to a fatal character flaw and crushing events
- Plot is driven: iron, fate, unavoidable calamity, irresistible undoing.
- Plot structure: a steady and logical accumulation of snowballing events
- Story resolved/ ends: a death, separation, or an undoing
- Story seems like: a moment crystallized in time to horrid to be forgotten, so let it be a less onto us all….
Describe comedy
- Character: types (“wicked stepmother”)
- Plot is about: laughable, amusing people, caught up in error(lovesick) or confusion(frog prince) that does not result in pain off death
- Plot is driven: improbability, blind, luck, happy chance
- Plot structure: jumble of events that “pop-up” and are strung together like pearl necklaces
- Story resolved/ends: things coming together(marriage) merrily ever after
- Story seems like: a timeless situation that could happen, albeit(though) with different people, anytime, any place just like that…
