Q

What are the harmful effects of combustion?

A

The internal combustion engine produces impurities such as nitrous oxides, unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide

Flue gases (gases that come out of chimneys) contain sulphur dioxide which causes acid rain or air pollution

Q

How can sulfur dioxide be removed, include the equation.

A

Sulfur dioxide can be removed by reacting it with calcium carbonate or calcium oxide because sulfur dioxide is acidic and calcium oxide is basic.

CaO + SO2 -> CaSO3
