combustion Flashcards
what’s the function of the combustion section?
add energy to the gasses by expanding and accelerating them then delivering to the turbine section
what are the 4 types of combustion chambers?
multi can (more than 1 combustion can), can annular (individual inner flame tubes with a common air casing), annular (single tube wrapping around engine with outer casing), reverse annular flow
why are there air holes in the combustion chamber cans?
so the air can cool down inside and the cans don’t melt
what are the 2 types of fuel nozzles and what’s the difference between them?
simplex and duplex. simplex, fuel is ejected through 1 nozzle. duplex, fuel is ejected through 2 nozzles
what are the main components in the combustion cans?
flare, igniter, fuel nozzle and air holes
where in the engine is the combustion section loacted?
between the turbine and the diffuser section, it is the first part of the ‘hot section’
in the multi-can combustion system, what is installed to make sure all cans remain ignited ?
an interconnecting tube
what is a case drain used for and where is it located?
used to remove excess fuel from the combustion chamber on engine shut down, is located on the bottom of the combustion chamber
